A note about comments 13 January 2010

There have been some cases lately of comments that have, apparently for no good reason, failed to appear on the blog. If you submit a bona fide comment and it does not appear, please do contact me to let me know. It has probably been unjustly condemned as spam, and I will need to check through the spam folder (which I try to do at least once a week anyway) and rescue it.

WordPress.com has excellent spam filters (courtesy Akismet) but they do very occasionally send down the innocent along with the guilty. Apologies if this has happened to you.

Crater Navidad, Lonquimay volcano, Chile

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all from The Volcanism Blog. The blog will be on a holiday break until 29 December 2009 – it is possible that there will be posting between now and then, but it can’t be guaranteed.

The cinder cone above is at Lonquimay volcano, Chile, and was produced by an eruption that began on 25 December 1988. Appropriately enough, it is called Crater Navidad. Compliments of the season to all our readers and visitors!

This was not an easy decision, but I’ve finally decided to start a Twitter account for The Volcanism Blog and begin twitting entwitments. Any advice on how to get the best out of the thing gratefully received: I’m feeling my way with it, to be honest.

Volcano matchbox label: 'Vesuvius'

A weekend occupied by personal matters means that there will be no blogging here until Monday 21 September. This week’s ‘Saturday Volcano Art’ will appear on Monday, or possibly Tuesday. Apologies for the delay.

The Volcanism Blog took an unannounced break this week because my health took a turn for the worse on 19 July. Things are better now, but I can’t promise a return to full service for a little while yet. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

In the meantime, here’s something to enjoy from Sticky Comics: lil’ volcano.

Update 10 August 2009: I’m better! Back to blogging this week. Thank you to everyone who has left messages and/or sent e-mails with good wishes. Your kind thoughts have been much appreciated.

What was intended to be a break of a few days has stretched to over a week, thanks to a car with recurrent mechanical difficulties* and other problems with which I will not bore you. Please accept my apologies for this service interruption: The Volcanism Blog does not like to let its loyal readers down.

I will be catching up with things as well as I can over the next few days. Thank you for your patience.

* Software difficulties, actually. Cars are too complicated these days.
