The National Disaster Co-ordinating Council (NDCC) of the Philippines issued a warning this week that the volcanoes Mayon and Taal remain dangerous and active, and people should keep away.
Mayon is at Alert Level 2 (click here for information about alert levels in the Philippines), with a potential for explosive activity and the generation of lahars in nearby river channels, and a 6 km exclusion zone (7 km on the SE flank) remains in force. Meanwhile the main crater of Taal, which is on a lower alert (Alert Level 1), remains off-limits because of the danger of steam explosions and high concentrations of toxic gases.
