Hawaii’s largest daily newspaper, The Honolulu Advertiser, has created a special web feature on Kilauea, ‘Volcano Stirring’, that brings together the Advertiser’s coverage of the current activity at the volcano. The complete archive of Kilauea stories back to June 2007 is available, along with images and videos.

The Chilean newspaper El Mercurio (Santiago) has published an online supplement devoted to the volcanoes of its home country: Volcanes en Chile.

Within Chile there are more than 2,900 volcanoes, 80 of which, according to experts, have recorded activity. In addition, the country has 15% of all the active volcanoes in the world … Thus, our country is a natural laboratory for their study because of the large number, diversity and characteristics of these complex geological features along the spine of the Andes.

It is organized in five main sections: Chile un país de volcanes (’Chile, land of volcanoes’), Cómo enfrentarlos (’How to deal with them’), Categorías de volcanes (’Kinds of volcanoes’), Tipos de erupción (’Types of eruption’), and Niveles de alerta (’Levels of alert’). There is also a glossary and a multimedia section that includes links to other resources.

The supplement is undated, but seems to have been put together a couple of years ago. It’s an accessible and useful introduction to Chile’s volcanoes, and a model of how these things should be done. El Mercurio has published numerous online ‘Especiales’ over the past few years (all in Spanish of course) and the complete list can be found on their index page.
